The Deus Bike Build Off is done and dusted for another year, and as always, those who built bikes showed what can be (and shouldn’t be able to be) done with a custom motorcycle.

Although we don’t think the world of creative bike building really needs a ‘winner’, we thought we’d better crown someone with bragging rights until the next Bike Build Off instalment.

To find this best in show we assembled 11 judges, from all facets of the motorcycling world, gave them a week to look over the 200+ entries submitted, then asked them to score their top builds, scoring high for builds which incorporated ‘the most with the least’.

CONGRATULATIONS to our 2019 global bike build off winner

The Electric s90

The Electric s90 began its life as a rusted and seized 1964 Honda s90 motorcycle purchased off Craigslist for forty dollars the first month I moved to Long Beach, CA. The entire motorcycle was stripped to the frame, restored, and redesigned as a custom cafe racer. All electrical and wiring components were replaced. The internal combustion engine was replaced with a 48v 2000w brushless direct current motor powered by a 17AH lithium ion battery. All work was done in my studio apartment and adjacent patio within a budget of $900. The Electric s90 looks like the past and goes like the future.

A second hand bike bought for under $50 and thrown into the boot of a small sports car… he’s off to a good start. This masterpiece was built within a studio appartment; on the floor between Aarons bed and kitchenette within a budget of $900. The Electric s90 truly makes the most with the least and displays tidy finishes, attention to detail and a lot of elbow grease. The 3D printed parts and electric conversion are all impressive signs on enginuity within a build that ticks all the boxes. Congratulations Aaron.

Judging

We've handpicked a panel of experts from all parts of the motorcycling world, to crown this year's global winner.
Each judge will score their top builds, based on the bike they feel incorporates 'THE MOST WITH THE LEAST'.

The winner will be announced in August.

DARE JENNINGS

FOUNDER OF DEUS EX MACHINA

The mastermind of the Deus Bike Build Off.
Dare's vision has been at the core of all previous events - a contest that rewards people who can "make something funny and original while not spending a lot of money''.

Make him laugh and you're on the right track.

CARBY TUCKWELL

FOUNDER OF DEUS EX MACHINA

Carby's the co-mastermind of the Bike Build Off and of Deus Ex Machina.

He's the graphic and design arm of the brand, so incorporating good design into a build will be the first step to impressing Carby

... that and building anything under 100cc.

MICHAEL 'WOOLIE' WOOLAWAY

DEUS BIKE BUILDER, USA

Woolie's workshop is legendary in the US and all over world.

Over the years he has built bikes for the likes of Orlando Bloom, Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel.

Woolie likes things that go fast ... but he also nails the finer details and beautiful design like no one else.

VINCENT PRAT

CO-FOUNDER, WHEELS & WAVES

One of the original brains behind the 'Wheels & Waves' motorcycle festival in Biarritz.

Vincent helped create one of the most prolific motorcycle events in the world, he knows bikes - of any shape and size.

MATT DARWON

THE MACHINE SHOW BUILD COMP

Matt 'Machine' Darwon sat on the judging panel of the very first Deus Bike Build Off.

Creator of 'The Machine Show', one of the best build comps out there, Matt's been up close to some incredible builds over the years.

He'll be setting the bar high for this year's global competition.

DAVID BORRAS

CO-FOUNDER, EL SOLITARIO

No stranger to controversy, one of David's builds was once titled 'the world's most hated motorcycle'. He liked that title so much, he stuck with it.

David's a rule breaker and likes to push boundaries - we're looking forward to seeing which bike is his favourite.

JEREMY TAGAND

DEUS BIKE BUILDER, AUSTRALIA

Jeremy has been building bikes for Deus Ex Machina since day one.

He can build any type of bike, just take a look at his creation 'The Paul McNeil Goof Bike', a sand-dune slaying Honda Van-Van with a surfboard roof-rack.

There's no argument he's the perfect judge for this contest of creativity.

PAOLO PAVESIO

MARKETING DIVISION MANAGER, YAMAHA EU

Paolo lives and breathes all types of motorcycles ... although he may show a slight favouritism towards Yamaha bikes.

We've taken this on board and decided to give him the power to crown a 'Best Yamaha' build from all the global submissions.

MICHELA ACERBIS

HEAD OF MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS, ACERBIS

As the namesake for the best plastics company in motorcycling, Michela brings a lifetime of experience in the industry to the competition.

Which builds will be her favourite, hard to say ... but we can say with certainty that vintage dirt bikes have her name written all over them (hold for laughs).

CHRISTOPHE CANITROT

CO-FOUNDER, WHEELS & WAVES

One of the original brains behind the 'Wheels & Waves' motorcycle festival in Biarritz.

Christophe's passion is for all motorcycles, but if you've built a flat track or vintage MX bike, you'll certainly have his attention.

SILVIO FRARE

GLOBAL BRAND MANAGER, METZELER

Although he knows his tyres, we wouldn't consider Silvio a tyre kicker.
He has a strong background in mechanical engineering and motorcycle design, and will bring every bit of this knowledge to the judging panel.

He'll certainly be looking at more than just the tyres on the bike ... although a carefully selected tread surely won't go unnoticed.
